This policy brief examines how the EU’s Global Gateway initiative can align with India’s regional connectivity priorities in the Indo-Pacific. The authors argue that despite strategic differences, both the EU and India share converging objectives in promoting transparent, sustainable infrastructure as alternatives to China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Key convergence areas include digital connectivity, clean energy, transport infrastructure, and people-to-people linkages. The brief recommends establishing joint project prioritization mechanisms, leveraging complementary institutional strengths, mobilizing private sector participation, and utilizing regional platforms like BIMSTEC and IORA. However, challenges include bureaucratic complexities, financing constraints, and strategic divergences that must be addressed for effective partnership.
