November 19 – November 20
Building on the outcomes of the Inception Dialogue in Perth, the upcoming Second Workshop on Enhancing Australia–India Underwater Domain Awareness (UDA) Cooperation will continue this momentum in Visakhapatnam. The workshop will aim to advance the recommendations from the first dialogue into concrete and actionable frameworks to further strengthen operational cooperation between the Australia and India.
It will focus on four key themes: anti-submarine warfare (ASW), uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs), undersea search and rescue, and bilateral capacity building. These areas represent vital pillars for enhancing shared situational awareness, maritime safety, and the resilience of the broader Indo-Pacific security architecture.
The choice of Visakhapatnam as the venue is particularly significant. As the headquarters of India’s Eastern Naval Command and a major hub for submarine and maritime operations, the city offers a strategic setting for advancing these discussions. Planned field visits to Hindustan Shipyard Limited, the Eastern Naval Command, and L&T Port Kattupalli will provide participants with valuable insights into India’s undersea capabilities and the practical dimensions of bilateral collaboration.
We are hosting this workshop in collaboration with the University of Western Australia’s Defence and Security Institute, as part of a two-year initiative supported by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
