October 5 @ 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm
India and Canada have made significant progress in rebuilding their economic relationship over the past year. The renewed engagement has produced Terms of Reference for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), a critical minerals memorandum, an institutionalized defence dialogue and a long-term uranium supply agreement. Four rounds of CEPA negotiations have since taken place, with both governments aiming to conclude the agreement by the end of the year and substantially expand bilateral trade by 2030.
The discussion will examine whether this renewed momentum can translate into sustained growth in trade, investment and technology cooperation. It will consider the recent contraction in bilateral trade, the resilience of Canadian institutional investment, and the regulatory constraints affecting sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, critical minerals and technology. It will also assess what CEPA can realistically address and how renewed Track II engagement can help strengthen the durability of the broader economic relationship.
