This roundtable discussion examined the evolving dynamics of the conflict in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, set against the backdrop of a strained ceasefire and shifting geopolitical alignments. As Israel had sought amendments to the ceasefire under US-led proposals and humanitarian aid to Gaza remained suspended, Arab states had advanced alternative visions for Palestinian statehood in defiance of U.S. initiatives. Simultaneously, tensions had escalated on Israel’s northern front, with heightened demands on Syria and the looming threat of expanded conflict beyond the Golan Heights.
Anchored in Dr. Stanly Johny’s book, “Original Sin: Israel, Palestine, and the Revenge of Old West Asia” (HarperCollins, 2024), the discussion aimed to examine the evolving positions of Israel, Arab states, Iran, and the United States with regard to Palestine, and to consider the viable pathways to peace in both Palestine and the broader Middle East. It also explored the long-term global implications of the expanding war and assessed India’s position over the course of the 17-month conflict.
