This roundtable explored the India-Canada relationship—anchored in shared democratic values and robust trade and educational ties—as it navigates a period of heightened diplomatic strain. In 2023, bilateral trade reached C$12.67 billion, and Indian students formed the largest international group in Canadian universities, yet rising tensions have exposed key vulnerabilities in the partnership. The discussion examined how diaspora politics, security concerns, and broader geopolitical shifts have complicated ties between the two countries.

Despite these challenges, the roundtable highlighted significant areas of convergence—such as climate action, critical minerals, agricultural innovation, technological collaboration, and Indo-Pacific engagement. With Canada identifying India as a key partner in its Indo-Pacific Strategy, and India seeking to diversify its strategic partnerships, participants explored how these shared priorities could serve as the foundation for renewed engagement. The conversation aimed to identify concrete steps to rebuild trust, deepen cooperation, and chart a forward-looking, mutually beneficial path for the bilateral relationship.
