The project explores the potential for trilateral cooperation between the Republic of Korea, India, and the United States in the shipbuilding sector, focusing on maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities. This project explores the strategic rationale and practical avenues for collaboration in this critical maritime domain.
The project will examine the international context within the Indo-Pacific region, analyzing trends in the global shipbuilding industry with an emphasis on MRO services. It will assess each country’s domestic capabilities and recent developments that make such cooperation viable.
The project will investigate how this cooperation aligns with the respective Indo-Pacific strategies of the three nations, exploring existing partnerships and identifying potential synergies. A case study of India-US cooperation in naval MRO will provide insights for the proposed trilateral arrangement.
The research methodology includes literature reviews, expert interviews, and focused group discussions. The final report will present comprehensive findings and offer a set of policy recommendations spanning strategic, operational, technical, and economic dimensions. These recommendations will aim to advance trilateral cooperation in shipbuilding MRO, providing a roadmap for future collaboration in this strategically important sector.
