This roundtable featured a lecture on Japan’s Security Policies Now: Proactive and Pragmatic Evolutions by Mr. Abe Noriaki, who outlined major shifts in Japan’s strategic posture amid what he described as a “historical turning point” in global affairs. He highlighted mounting challenges from China, North Korea, and joint China–Russia activities, alongside emerging security concerns in supply chains, technology, space, and information. Mr. Abe detailed Japan’s three-pronged strategy—strengthening deterrence, reinforcing the U.S. alliance, and deepening cooperation with like-minded partners—supported by new counterstrike capabilities and the 2023 Official Security Assistance framework. He emphasized the growing convergence between India and Japan in promoting Indo-Pacific stability through expanded dialogues, updated security frameworks, and enhanced defense collaboration.
