Dr. Sevea is an Associate Professor and Director of the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). An internationally recognized scholar of contemporary and modern South Asia, his research focuses on South Asian politics and social and political thought.
Dr. Sevea has held academic positions at leading institutions globally, including the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Nanyang Technological University. His publications include “The Political Philosophy of Muhammad Iqbal: Islam and Nationalism in Late Colonial India” (Cambridge University Press, 2012) and “India and the Future of G20: Shaping Policies for a Better World” (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2023).
His forthcoming book, “Islamic Political Thought in Modern South Asia” (Cambridge University Press, 2025), further cements his expertise in the field. He has also published extensively on ethnonationalism, the Partition, Pakistani state ideology, modern Islamic thought, and Muslim education in South Asia.
He holds a DPhil in History from the University of Oxford, a master’s degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and a bachelor’s degree in history from NUS.
