The India-Europe Program is dedicated to advancing a comprehensive understanding of the strategic, economic, and geopolitical dynamics between India and Europe—including the European Union and its key member states—in an increasingly multipolar and interconnected global order.
Recognizing the transformative potential and inherent challenges of deepening ties amid geopolitical uncertainties, supply-chain vulnerabilities, technological competition, and climate imperatives, the program conducts cutting-edge, policy-oriented research to address the multifaceted opportunities and risks in bilateral engagement, global governance, security cooperation, trade liberalization, innovation ecosystems, and sustainable development. Through rigorous analysis, multi-stakeholder dialogues, and strategic advocacy, the program delivers actionable insights and policy recommendations to strengthen strategic convergence, mitigate risks of fragmentation, and promote balanced, mutually beneficial partnerships.
The program explores six core themes: strategic and political engagement; trade, investment, and economic cooperation; defence, security, and maritime cooperation; technology, digital governance, and innovation; climate change, green transition, and sustainable development; multilateralism; global governance and connectivity.
Objectives:
– To provide in-depth, evidence-based analysis of India-Europe strategic convergence and emerging challenges in a multipolar world.
– To generate actionable policy recommendations that enhance bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation while leveraging the opportunities created by the 2026 India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
– To facilitate high-level, multi-stakeholder dialogues that build trust, address divergences, and promote joint initiatives in defence, security, maritime domains, and critical technologies.
– To advance collaborative frameworks for climate action, green transitions, sustainable development, and digital governance to support mutual resilience against global risks.
– To strengthen India’s role in multilateral forums by exploring shared approaches to global governance, connectivity, and rules-based international order.
– To bridge knowledge and practice gaps through innovative tools, strategic advocacy, and capacity-building, empowering policymakers, industry, and civil society to foster a more balanced and enduring India-Europe partnership.
By fostering collaboration among governments, industry leaders, academic institutions, think tanks, and international organizations, the program bridges critical policy and practice gaps, strengthening bilateral resilience and supporting India’s leadership in shaping an inclusive, stable, and prosperous international future. Our work empowers stakeholders with practical tools, innovative frameworks, and forward-looking strategies to navigate the evolving India-Europe landscape responsibly and sustainably—especially as January 2026’s historic milestone in New Delhi, the conclusion of the landmark India-EU Free Trade Agreement, creates a free trade zone of nearly two billion people, eliminates or reduces tariffs on over 96% of goods, and marks a decisive step toward deeper economic and strategic alignment in a changing global order.
